An actual event, the sinking of the British submarine
Truculent, provided the basis for this uneven drama starring Mills as the commander of a submarine that strikes a mine, killing all but 12 men and leaving them trapped beneath the ocean. Most of the action concentrates on the mechanics
of the rescue attempt, while the men below try to decide who among them will survive because the rescue equipment can only save eight. Fast-paced and interesting at first, the film later slows down considerably and spends too much time on stiff-upper-lip heroics.
