Onimasa: Review

Nakadai has been a gangster boss in the Japanese town of Shikoku since 1921. He is married and has two mistresses, but no children. He adopts Natsume, a girl in her early teens, and they become very close even after Nakadai fathers a daughter of his own. This is a very brutal, melodramatic film. The production quality is flawless, but its credibility is occasionally stretched. This film was Japan's official submission for the 1982 foreign language Academy Award. leave a comment
