Barrie, the mother of a young child, is deserted by her husband, Mulligan. He leaves for South America, and she gets a divorce and a job at a local plant, where she meets Hamilton, a black coworker. They fall in love, marry, and move to the farm of Hamilton's parents. Mulligan returns and,
