Remake of Alfred Hitchcock's STRANGERS ON A TRAIN replaces mad character Bruno with pretty, psychotic Lynley. Lynley seduces golf pro Burke at a country club, then suggests that she murder his archrival and he kill the psychiatrist who wants to commit her to an asylum. Taking her to be joking, Burke agrees--learning later that Lynley has recorded the incriminating conversation to use against him if he does not go through with the bargain. Lynley kills the golfing rival, Carey, by running him over with a golf cart and then continues pestering Burke until he confers with her psychiatrist. Neither Lynley's role nor Burke's is believable--and the actors receive little support from the rest of the cast. What suspense the story has comes through chase sequences or other such tried-and-true devices; the plot conveys little. Three months before the official release of ONCE YOU KISS A STRANGER, director Sparr died from injuries he received while seeking locations for another film. leave a comment
