When Papa Jones suffers a heart attack, the Jones family moves to California where Dad is to enter a sanitarium for a rest cure. They buy a bungalow court and rent out to families with children, much to the consternation of a neighbor who does not like all the noise. Well-produced piece of escapist entertainment. At the time of production, Jed Prouty was in a battle with Fox over his contract, so he was conveniently written out of the script. Roberts, who had played Granny Jones since the series began in 1936, died shortly after the picture's release at the age of 79. Her first screen appearance took place during the silent era, but her film career really didn't get going until 1930 when she was 69. During the 1930s she had supporting roles in more than 30 films. leave a comment
