The disappearance, and reappearance six years later, of a lost son is a catalyst in the disintegration and reunification of a family in this film based on a real incident in French rural life.

Nine-year-old Olivier (Emmanuel Morozof) is clearly the favorite of his mother Elizabeth (Brigitte Rouan), perhaps because of his premature birth. Although he gets along with his sister Nadine (Faye Gatteau), she and her father Serge (Francois Cluzet) are resentful of the way in which his mother dotes on Olivier.
