The Old Curiosity Shop: Review

Lushly produced adaptation of a Dickens tale starring Webster as an old gambler and Benson as his granddaughter. Their lives are ruined when their landlord, a miserly old dwarf played with relish by Petrie, evicts them, forcing them into a life of poverty. Petrie was a renowned character actor who specialized in the odd duck roles. The film was remade in 1957 as MR. QUILP. leave a comment
