A hopelessly miscast Ayres struggles through this grim crime drama which features him as a Walter Winchell-type radio reporter. Ayres becomes embroiled in the kidnaping of an important Washington politician's daughter by mobster Arnold, who is obviously patterned after Al Capone. Arnold
has kidnaped the girl so that he can strike a bargain with the President of the US. Ayres arranges for the girl's release after a ransom of $100,000 is paid. No happy ending for Ayres, however; Arnold and his goons murder him while he is on the air. This film, with its obvious intent on exposing
newspaper columnists who grew rich by ruining reputations, was one of the cycle launched...
