A grim look at the brutality of American corporations abroad, greatly weakened by a hokey ending that nearly saps its power. O'Brien stars as an ambitious oil company representative in China whose blind faith in the company almost ruins his life. His first baby dies in childbirth because O'Brien is overly devoted to saving the corporation money and refuses a more expensive delivery. His best friend Eldredge loses a minor sales contract, so the fanatical O'Brien fires him.
