A moving melodrama based on Bobbie Gentry's 1967 hit song about a 17-year-old boy who commits suicide by jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge. The film is set in 1953 and stars Benson and O'Connor as two teenagers who meet and fall in love one summer. The film details the intricacies of southern small town life as the couple attend to their various obligations and then dash off to meet each other at the Tallahatchie Bridge.
