This black-and-white film's stark images leave an indelible impression on the mind. Set in rugged 1915 North Dakota, the film follows a Scandinavian couple's struggle against not only the harsh elements but foreclosing banks and indifferent politicians, as well, as they fight for their
land and for the Nonpartisan League, formed to protect farmers' rights. Artistically done, but too slow-paced for most viewers, the film is subtitled when the characters speak Norwegian.
