A standard teen romantic comedy that is saved by a pair of well-written, three-dimensional characters. Set against a picturesque San Francisco backdrop, NO SMALL AFFAIR follows a likable teen photographer, Charles Cummings (Jon Cryer), who knows how to capture girls on film but can't win them in real life. Along the water's edge, he randomly snaps a photo of the stunning Laura Victor (Demi Moore), who's a few years his senior. Later, while wandering through a rather sleazy nightclub, Charles spots her again and has her pose for a session. Absolutely fascinated with her, Charles makes it his mission to help her find success. NO SMALL AFFAIR, while nothing special, at least doesn't resort to the usual teen sex-fantasy cliches and gains more points for what it isn't (sophomoric) than what it is (occasionally touching). leave a comment
