NO MORE LADIES is a slick "formula" film with gorgeous costumes, lots of pseudo-witty lines, and an excellent cast, none of which can make up for the manufactured nature of the screenplay. Nonetheless, it's still good fun and has enough humor going for it to make this a pleasant diversion. Crawford is a slim patron of cafe society who is tired of the sophisticated life and yearns for a deeper relationship with a man, unlike the ones she's been experiencing. She will stick with her guy once she finds him. Tone is pursuing her and would like nothing better than to take her home to meet his parents. Despite his pleas, she meets and falls for Montgomery, a rakehell who hops in and out of women's beds with no regrets. Crawford thinks she can reform Montgomery and manages to get him to marry her, but the various women in Montgomery's life refuse to leave. They include Patrick, Osborne, and Burfield. Tone waits patiently in the wings and lets Crawford know that the moment Montgomery decides to dump her, he will gladly take her. Crawford wants to remain true to her pledge to love, honor, and cherish and declines Tone's advances. Meanwhile, Montgomery is still acting like a bachelor and Crawford is irate. She plans revenge and invites several people to a party at their home. These guests are all the men and women whom Montgomery has hurt by his philandering over the past decade. Crawford leaves with Tone to carry on what appears to be an affair, and, when she returns, Montgomery realizes that he truly loves Crawford and mends his ways. Glamorous and well-produced, NO MORE LADIES made a few dollars for the studio. Good comedy relief from Oliver as a drunken grandmother and Treacher as a comic Englishman. Two directors received credit on the picture, Griffith and Cukor, although we can't see why. leave a comment
