Based closely on Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, NO MERCY transports the action from icy Russia to steamy Lima with surprising ease. The story of an angry young man (Diego Bertie) who murders his landlady and her husband, NO MERCY is an unabashedly philosophical film. Raskolnikov stand-in Bertie and Adriana Davila, playing a deeply religious prostitute who combines elements of two of Dostoyevsky's characters, engage regularly and at some length in discussions of faith, politics and morality -- the kind that generally work better on the page than on the screen. But Bertie and Davila are extraordinary, and their performances alone make NO MERCY worth seeing. leave a comment
