Andre Dupas (Jean Coutu) is a trapper in the Canadian wilderness whose dog Nikki runs off and returns with a new friend, Neewa, a bear cub. Andre ties the two animals together, loads them into his canoe, and heads downstream; however, they are separated from him when the canoe overturns
