By the time Freddy Krueger supposedly died in Nightmare on Elm Street 4, the series had definitely lost most of what made the original so diabolically clever. Here, however, director Stephen Hopkins does an imaginative job visualizing a number of bizarre, freely associative nightmares and produces some memorably surrealistic scenes.
