Nightfall

Concorde Picture gave this adaptation of an Isaac Asimov short story the ultra-low-budget treatment and a scant regional release before consigning it to home video. Set on a faraway planet in a three-sun solar system, it features a culture on which the sun literally never sets. Sar (Alexis Kanner), a blind seer, forecasts that night will soon fall on the planet and his prediction is confirmed by astronomer Aton (David Birney). Fearing this will lead to a period of death and destruction, the populace divides into two camps--the irrational led by Sar, and the Aton-led survivalists, who plan to go underground until daylight returns.
