Marlon Brando, one of the most gifted actors of this century, couldn't manage to turn this sow's ear into much more than a slightly improved sow's ear. It's loosely based on Henry James' Turn of the Screw, which also served as the basis for the excellent film, THE INNOCENTS, but there the resemblance stops. Question: In the late '60s or early '70s I saw movie version of The Turn of the Screw that I thought starred Marlon Brando. I've never been able to find it on video. Am I wrong?Answer: You're only wrong in thinking that you saw a remake of the psychological thriller The Innocents (1960) with Marlon Brando. What you saw was a prequel. The Innocents, based on Henry James' novella The Turn of the Screw, is about a high-strung young governess (Deborah Kerr) who comes to believe that the children she's been hired to care for on an isolated country estate have been corrupted by the malevolent influence of their former governess, Miss Jessel, and her lover, the brutal manservant Quint. read more
