A lurid pre-Production Code winner from tough-guy director William Wellman. A nurse (Barbara Stanwyck) uncovers a horrifying plot to murder two children, heirs to a large fortune. Their mother (Charlotte Merriam), an evil drunk, plans on starving them them to death and marrying the chauffeur (Clark Gable). Stanwyck steps in and gets a sock in the jaw for her trouble.
