This powerful, uncompromising adaptation of Marcia Norman's 1983 Pulitzer Prize winner sticks closely to the grim line of the stage play. In a small house in the Midwest, a woman (Sissy Spacek) appears to be preparing for a trip: She cleans the refrigerator, cancels the newspaper delivery and packs her clothes.
