The manager of an all-night drugstore (Gene Hackman) rebels against suburbia, his wife, his son, middle age, business, and just about anything else he can think of while having an affair with a San Fernando Valley housewife (Barbra Streisand) in this frantic comedy. The film never reaches the level of absurdity it needs, but Hackman, aided by some fine writing by W.D.
