A tense film noir based on a true story, this stars Kelly as a middle-class family man returning to his desert home after a business trip into LA. On the road he picks up a hitchhiker, Edwards, who jams a gun in his ribs and forces him to pick up his bloodthirsty accomplices, Cassavetes and Cross. The crooks move in with Kelly and his family and terrorize them until Kelly can sell his car to raise enough money to get rid of them.
