A terrifically witty, refreshingly unpretentious science-fiction film with the least likely — and most likable — heroines: two conspicuously consuming Valley girls (Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney) who know how to handle a submachine gun. Good thing, too: They're among the few survivors of a close encounter with a comet that has turned the rest of humanity into either red dust or flesh-eating zombies. More than 20 years after the sci-fi comedy Night of the Comet had its day, the cult classic is getting a sequel.
