Gabin plays a police inspector who's on to the murder of a night club owner when he falls in love with the drug-addicted mistress (Tiller) of the murdered man. He tries to induce the girl to give him information that will help solve the case and thus keep Tiller from suspicion. But the
commissioner wants the case solved, ordering Gabin to lock up Tiller. However, the girl turns up missing, leading Gabin to the home of pharmacist Darrieux and the real killer.
