The "hard-nosed male editor vs. rebellious female reporter" plot gets competent treatment here, thanks to a strong performance by Foster as the editor. He's obsessed with building circulation and attempts to do so by freeing the innocent and convicting the guilty through his newspaper
stories. Bari is one of his reporters, and the two are constantly at odds, but everyone knows they're truly in love and will end up with each other by the film's end. The story's devoid of credibility, but it all flows rapidly and has nice comic relief provided by the supporting players.
