MacMurray plays a young man trying to make a go of it in New York who meets the down-and-out Martin. He takes her back to the slum apartment he shares with unemployed art professor Tamiroff. The three live amicably until MacMurray persuades Martin to find a rich man to marry. She does, in Preston, all the while being in love with MacMurray, and he with her.
