New Orleans

1929, Movie, NR, 68 mins

Collier and Cortez are friends pursuing the same girl, Bennett. The lady has expensive tastes and Cortez successfully woos her with cash stolen from his employer. Jockey Collier sets out to win a big race to get money so that Cortez can replace what he stole, but Bennett takes off with the winnings. Cortez gets a prison term, then the boys renew their friendship. The film was 20 percent dialog, and Bennett, who had been making silent films since 1922, proved to be very appealing as the femme fatale. The right role might have brought her to stardom, but it was not to be as she made only a few more films and shorts before retiring in 1930. leave a comment
