Steve Giardino (Alan Alda) is a New York stock trader whose wife, Jackie (Ann-Margret), has left him, citing general neglect. Both set out to make new lives for themselves. Steve, at the urging of his friend, Mel (Hal Linden), hits the singles scene then meets and falls in love with a gorgeous physician (Veronica Hamel). Meanwhile, Jackie, abetted by her girl friend, Donna (Mary Kay Place), takes up with a young sculptor, Doc (John Shea), and discovers what it's like to be attended to day and night. Steve and Jackie soon learn that there are many ways a relationship can go wrong. This cozily pat film, jam-packed with cliches, has one saving grace: the performance of Ann-Margret, who continues to mature and grow as an actress. Too bad the story can't match the depth she brings to her character. leave a comment
