The New Land

This touching sequel to THE EMIGRANTS follows the struggle of von Sydow and Ullmann during their first decade in America. The story includes a futile trek to the Southwest to search for gold. The film is a subtle depiction of the hardships people face as they try to find a niche for themselves. The story moves slowly at times, but this helps to focus on the changes that the characters undergo. Nominated for Best Foreign Film in 1972. Edited for television under the title THE IMMIGRANT SAGA.
