Just an excuse for another song-and-dance revue with a very thin story line. Cowan plays a crooked producer out to make a deliberate flop and in this manner pocket all the excess money he has been given by his backers. (The same idea was later used for the story line of Mel Brooks' THE PRODUCERS.) NEW FACES OF 1937 gives the audience a chance to watch numerous auditions, as well as the final show. Songs include: "Our Penthouse on Third Avenue," "Love Is Never Out of Season," "It Goes to Your Feet," "If I Didn't Have You," "Take the World Off Your Shoulders," "It's the Doctor's Orders" (Sammy Fain, Lew Brown), "When the Berry Blossoms Bloom" (Joe Penner, Hal Raynor), "The Widow in Lace" (Walter Bullock, Harold Spina), "New Faces" (Charles Henderson), "Peckin" (Ben Pollack, Harry James, Edward Cherkose). leave a comment
