A neurotic writer of gothic novels (Groves) manages to rid herself of her agoraphobia by finally leaving her Manhattan townhouse--only to move to a haunted Victorian mansion that was once a brothel. The ghosts of the prostitutes reveal themselves and show her, in slow motion, the massacre that ended their lives. Groves finds herself being used by the ghosts to get even with their murderers.
