Who says revenge is sweet? According to NECROMANCER, it is anything but--and it's not very pretty to watch either. Julie (Elizabeth Kaitan) is a sweet blonde coed who is raped by a trio of low-lifes late one night in the school auditorium. In order to keep her quiet, the threesome threaten to tell her current beau (John Tyler) about her past affair with a drama professor (Russ Tamblyn). She does confide in her best friend (Rhonda Durton), who persuades her to respond to a classified ad offering professional revenge services. NECROMANCER is a trite little horror film, borrowing heavily from better entries in the genre. Kaitan's voice deepens and distorts in EXORCIST style; blood spurts up from bodies a la NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, etc.; meanwhile, the premise is so silly and the main character so dumb that it's difficult to care about her plight. NECROMANCER is both duller and gorier than it is frightening. leave a comment
