Based on the series of Nurse Matilda stories for young adults written by the late Christianna Brand, this quirky, uncommonly intelligent adaptation is a strange delight. Screenwriter Emma Thompson stars as the titular child-care worker, a strikingly unattracive English supernanny who mysteriously appears at the home of Colin Firth to help put his seven demonically disobedient children in line.
