In 1976, teenage Rumanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci astounded the world with her perfect Olympic scores of 10 points, but her life after the Games was anything but perfect. This film tells that story. In the wake of her international fame, Nadia's parents divorce, the Communist Party assigns her a new coach, she begins overeating, and, in a moment of desperation, she tries to take her own life. Eventually, however, Nadia makes a dramatic comeback and retires happily. Despite some fine performances--including that of Carrie Snodgress as Nadia's mother--this real-life drama is reduced to formula filmmaking, complete with a pat upbeat ending. leave a comment
