The title sounds like a Corman horror flick, but this actually is a well-made version of the ballet "Coppelia." The simple story involves the adventures of a group of dolls locked up in Slezaks' laboratory. The macabre elements of the original have been pared out, leaving a nicely choreographed story that's perfect for both children and dance lovers. American dancer Corday is marvelous, as is her partner Selling, a veteran of the Royal Swedish Ballet. Also in the film are animated sequences involving Slezak's dreams of being a toreador, with British comic actor Terry-Thomas providing the bull's voice. This film was produced and choreographed by dance innovators Ted and Jo Anna Kneeland. leave a comment
