A sports-filled drama follows the inner turmoil of a family ruled by a driven man. Stewardson is a former Olympic champion who wants his sons to be as successful as he is. He pushes them to compete, with victory being the only goal. When one son is killed and another severely injured in a big auto race, the family turns on Stewardson. The story climaxes with a marathon race between father and son, with Stewardson losing and learning something about competition. This old story is told reasonably well, but the film is padded with far too much footage of various competitions, including auto races, track competitions, and swim meets. Much of this has little to do with the story and severely limits what the actors can do with their parts. Another bothersome note is that without so much as a single black face (even in crowd scenes), MY WAY reflects the racist situation that exists there. leave a comment
