Not nearly as charming as the 1936 original, this remake does have its moments. Niven is an Austrian diplomat illegally staying in the US, posing as a butler to avoid detection. Allyson plays the rich girl who learns a few things about life from him. She's cute in her role but hardly the
equal of the original character created by Lombard. The only standout is Landis as Allyson's crazy mother, who adds some comic life to the proceedings. This version lacks the screwball timing and madcap glee of the original. The direction by Koster is passable.
