Montalban plays a hard-working Mexican in California's San Joaquin Valley who's very proud of his recently acquired American citizenship. He shuns the carousing ways of his fellow workers and strives to better himself, but trouble begins when he does some work for Corey, who hates Mexicans. When Corey's check bounces, Montalban confronts him, a struggle ensues and Corey is wounded with his own rifle. With the aid of his wife, Trevor, who is unhappy because Montalban has ignored her advances, Corey concocts a story that lands Montalban in jail. Eventually, Montalban's friends get a confession out of Corey, and Montalban is freed, returning to his love, Winters. Strong performances by Montalban, Trevor, and Winters and a good script make this a worthwhile film. leave a comment
