A boy's best friend is his dog — even if it's dead — in this easy-going children's movie. After his mother's death, Toby (Bryan Mendez) hopes to continue living with his stepfather, Chet (Leo Milbrook). But that desire conflicts with the greedy wishes of Toby's venal Aunt Violet (Kate Doughan), who hires a fancy lawyer to obtain legal custody. Chet tries to keep Violet at bay while going out on a series of disastrous dates in hopes of remarrying and solidifying his paternal status.
