An entertaining "hard-boiled cop" adventure casts Foster as a private eye. The title reflects his manner of dealing with bad guys and actually was a well-known phrase used by New York Police Commissioner Lewis J. Valentine. Foster's stuck with finding the killer of a millionaire's mutt, but the case ends up leading to kidnaping, ransom, and homicide. Funny and imaginative, though it does run a little longer than needed. Mowbray plays the millionaire in trouble--or is he? Real-life boxer Rosenbloom makes a few fancy moves in a brief cameo. The direction is fast-paced, striking the right balance between comedy and drama. leave a comment
