This and its prequel, The Three Musketeers, was originally intended to be one huge, 3 1/2 hour epic, but the sneaky producers decided to release them as two separate films. (One paycheck, two movies.) It appears director Richard Lester hit his stride half-way through the production: The sequel is the better film. The Musketeers — Michael York, Frank Finlay, Richard Chamberlain and Oliver Reed — have foiled adventuress Faye Dunaway's attempts to discredit queen Geraldine Chaplin, and now Dunaway plans to wreak revenge.
