Not surprisingly, MURDER BY TELEVISION is an often overlooked film in the career of Bela Lugosi. Leaving his vampire character behind, he appears in a dual role as twin brothers, one evil and the other good. During a television demonstration watched by a number of people, a professor is killed without any trace of the murderer. The evil Lugosi is killed soon afterwards, leaving the good one to solve the crime. Slow, talky, and not what the title implies. The most interesting aspect of this film is that television is implicated as the murder device. Commercial TV was still more than a decade away and was considered futuristic. Perhaps there was a feeling among the public that television was dangerous. leave a comment
