Murder On The Orient Express

1974, Movie, PG, 128 mins

Elegant and stylish in the best Agatha Christie tradition--a thoroughly entertaining if poky whodunit. Hercule Poirot (a showy Finney) is aboard the luxurious Orient Express in 1934, traveling across Asia and Europe to Paris. When an American financier (Richard Widmark) is found dead--stabbed a dozen times--Poirot is prevailed upon by railway executive Bianchi (Balsam) to solve the case. Through an elaborate re-creation of the crime, he does just that. For years Christie refused to have this story filmed, but MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS was worth the wait. Even Ingrid knew she didn't deserve her supporting Oscar, but she is fine, and sentimental Academy members slept well that night. Very enjoyable, but frankly, too many stars for its own good. leave a comment
