A standard British crime film which would be completely forgotten were it not for the appearance of Errol Flynn in his first starring role. The story concerns a crooked roulette scheme in a Monte Carlo casino with Flynn leading the investigation. Upon his arrival, Graetz, the inventor of the gambling system, mysteriously turns up dead. The film ends with the familiar reenactment of the crime, which proves successful in solving the case. Flynn had been working in England for about a year-and-a-half before the managing director of First National, Irving Asher, spotted him. A cable was sent to Warner Bros. Studios announcing that Flynn was signed for a seven-year contract--without a screen test. The contract was soon amended to six months at $150 per week. What followed for Flynn was almost unequalled fame--the sort that legends are made of. MURDER AT MONTE CARLO never saw a U.S. release, however. leave a comment
