Murder A La Mod

Early, low-budget De Palma effort hinting at the filmmaker's obsessions with with visual style, Godard, and Hitchcock. A porno director is being blackmailed by his wife and pleads with his girl friend to help him; she steals a friend's jewelry to raise some cash, but is found murdered soon after. The film delves into the lives of the three most likely suspects and follows their activities immediately after the murder. Unfortunately, De Palma pays more attention to the visuals than to the characters, leaving the audience dazzled but cold.
