Clint Eastwood reteams with director Don Siegel (Coogan's Bluff and, later, Dirty Harry) and skillfully creates his usual Western character, the expressionless nobody from nowhere. This time around he saves Shirley MacLaine from a gang of rapists, only to find she's a nun involved with Mexican revolutionaries. Laconic Eastwood's chemistry with the more lively MacLaine is surprisingly good; the two make a fine team as they develop the odd relationship between their characters.
