Mr. Winkle Goes To War

Not really the war comedy its title leads one to expect, MR. WINKLE GOES TO WAR stars Edward G. Robinson as Wilbert Winkle, who, after working for 15 years as a bank clerk, gives up his job and sets up a repair shop next to his home, much to the consternation of his wife, Amy (Ruth Warrick), who tosses him out of the house. In short order, however, 44-year-old Wilbert receives a call from Uncle Sam and, though he expects to be turned away at the induction center, soon finds himself in uniform, survives basic training, and is sent into combat against the Japanese.
