Stewart plays a midwestern banker who rents a cottage at the seashore for a relaxing vacation with his family. Things get off to a bad start when their hideaway turns out to be a spooky dump that drives their live-in cook out of the kitchen permanently. Moreover, despite the miles of beach
outside, couch-potato son Burns remains transfixed before the TV set, and young Peters refuses to be seen in public with her new braces. Two other daughters, Trundy and Gentle, show up with their deadbeat husbands, while the attractive Mrs. Hobbs (O'Hara) is kept busy fending off a local
yachtsman's advances. Disaster piles upon disaster in this satire of family togetherness, but...
