An attempt at satire has Baker as a small-town electrician whose strong voice impresses a New York sponsor. When Baker is taken to New York, however, he suffers an attack of bronchitis and his voice changes from baritone to tenor. He goes on the air but is accused of being a fake. Unwittingly, however, he is a hit with the audience but is kept by his manager from ever appearing in public.
