Richard Pryor plays Arlo Pear, an upper middle-class New Jersey mass transit engineer who loses his job. The only new position he can find is in Boise, Idaho. He must cope with the horrors associated with moving, which are intensified by members of his own family who are appalled by the prospect of living in Idaho.
