Richard Pryor plays Arlo Pear, an upper middle-class New Jersey mass transit engineer who loses his job. The only new position he can find is in Boise, Idaho. He must cope with the horrors associated with moving, which are intensified by members of his own family who are appalled by the
prospect of living in Idaho. The movie has only a few bright moments, mainly provided by the fine group of supporting actors. Pryor displays none of his old manic energy, and the film follows suit, proceeding with murderous deliberation.
